SWAT-CUP Parallel Processing module
The parallel processing scheme (PPS) in SWAT-CUP uses state of the art technology to utilize the existing power of the modern computers and laptops to parallelize the calibration process using the unique features of SUFI2 optimization algorithm. In SUFI2, Latin hypercube sampling scheme is used in an iterative process. Each set of model parameters is sent by the PPS to an available CUP. As many of the new computer systems are at least dual core, at the minimum this can half the calibration time. With a modest amount of financial investment, a system could be build with 64 processors and many GBs of RAM. The advantages are twofold: 1) Tremendous gains could be reached in calibration time, and 2) as time constraint is removed, finer resolution models with more HRUs could be built for a better system representation. The Figure below shows the performance of PPS in a computer with 24 CPUs and 24 GB RAM.

With the Parallel Processing:
 • You can have your processing up to 64 times faster depending on your hardware
 • You take full advantage of the resources your modern computer is offering
 • You omit the requirement of using Linux operating system in order to have a grid computation; and yes! We do know how tedious it is to obtain grid certificate and set up for grid computing!
 • You can have your fast processing right at your own office or home
 • The calibration would be faster even on your modern laptop.
